What a barrique is for us
A classic barrique barrel holds 225 liters. But for us, “barrique” means much more: it is an individually crafted maturation partner – tailored to the style, goal and signature of its winemaker or distiller. We use Swabian oak: regionally grown, hand-picked, sensorially independent. No imported wood, no mass-produced profile – just character from the forest on our doorstep.
Origin, craftsmanship, signature
The production of a barrique does not begin in the workshop, but in the forest. Each log is personally selected by us, air-dried after years and processed using the mirror-cut method – for a fine grain, low tannin leaching and optimum tension. Only then does the bending over an open fire begin – the moment when the wood begins to reveal its character.
We shape each barrel precisely by hand, without glue, using tension and experience alone. The toasting – which we can control individually in four stages – gives the barrel its sensory signature. Whether you want to emphasize fruit or incorporate roasted aromas: We listen and develop the right toasting profile with you.

A good barrique barrel does not change the wine – it makes it speak. Micro-oxidation refines the tannins, while toasting releases specific aromas such as vanilla, nuts or delicate roasted notes. The mouthfeel becomes rounder, the ageing potential improves and the profile sharpens. A wine that has matured in a Streib barrel is not simply “matured in barrique”. It has matured in its personality.

Who is the barrique made for?
Not every wine needs a barrique barrel – but every good wine can benefit from the right maturing partner. Particularly powerful red wines (e.g. Lemberger, Merlot, Cabernet) and selected white wines (e.g. Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris) develop a depth in barriques that would remain hidden in stainless steel tanks. Cuvées also gain balance and profile through the targeted use of barrels.
